It has been freezing in Belgium for more than a week now. There are a quite a lot places where ice skating is allowed but the place to be for ice skating is the Damme Canal in the north of Bruges. It has been 15 years ago since I was there as a child with my parents walking with hundreds on the ice of the Damme Canal. I’m not sure, but I think it hasn’t been freezing enough since that year to make ice skating possible on this canal. Today, I went walking in the region around Damme and it’s canals. We heard there was a prohibition to go on the ice for the entire weekend. It wasn’t our intention to go skating, so we just put on our walking shoes and went to Damme.
Here are some photographs made during our walk. You’ll see not everyone respected the prohibition, neither did we 🙂
Those fireman will help decide if the prohibition will still be active tomorrow or not.
