De Zoom – Kalmthoutse Heide, is a cross-border park on the Belgian-Dutch border. The park extends over 37.50 square kilometres and is largely covered with heath. There are plenty of marked circular trails making it easy to discover this, surprisingly little known, national park.
We chose to combine the ant trail (wandeling mier/6.5km) and the hare trail (wandeling haas/4.6km).
As mentioned, both of these walks are perfectly marked. Even the connection route is marked (with a footsteps icon).
The map above is taken from grensparkzk.be. The entire map with all of the marked trails is available here or here. The entire list with a short description (in dutch) of these walks can be viewed also on www.gresparkzk.be/wandelen
So that was our first hike in the national park De Zoom – Kalmthoutse Heide. It’s very likely we’ll come back here soon to see what the other trails in this park still have to offer.
